DOS Point Enabler for Adaptec APA-1460 SCSI Adapter

• Enabler runs once at OS startup and keeps only very small part resident.
• APA-1460 Enabler is shipped with built-in ASPI Manager and functional drivers for SCSI Hard Disk and SCSI CD-ROM. You do not need any third-party software for work with SCSI Disks and SCSI CD-ROM devices.
• APA-1460 Enabler is also fully compatible with Adaptec ASPI Manager ASPI2DOS.SYS, Adaptec SCSI drivers included in Adaptec EZ-SCSI package (e.g. ASPICD.SYS) and IOMEGA JAZ software GUEST.EXE.
• Full INT 13h support (with APSoft ASPI Manager only) for SCSI Hard Disk Devices.
• Resident part of APA-1460 can be unloaded at any time (unless third party drivers are loaded and connected to ASPI Manager).

There are three different versions of APA-1460 Enabler: EN1460, CB1460 and UN1460.

All three versions have similar features and differ only by set of supported PC Card / CardBus adapters. Every version works under original DOS 6 and under Win95/98 DOS as well.

• EN1460.EXE is specifically designed for Intel PCIC compatible ISA adapters (such as e.g. Vadem-469). It will also work with many CardBus adapters, but only if CardBus adapter was properly configured by computer BIOS.
• CB1460.EXE is specifically designed for CardBus adapters that are installed in most of Laptops. In addition to EN1460 features, CB1460 is able to configure CardBus adapters even if your BIOS doesn't support it.
• UN1460.EXE combines best features of both of above product. If you are working in mixed environment with CardBus and ISA PC Card adapters, you will like this one. We also hope that UN1460 will be great for users of Toshiba notebooks where ToPIC PC Card adapter may be set either into PCIC compatible or into CardBus mode via BIOS Setup. Regardless of the PC Card Adapter mode the UN1460 Enabler will work effortlessly.

Support of SCSI Device normally requires a whole stack of drivers. One of the best set of SCSI Drivers on the market is Adaptec EZ-SCSI software. Usually you need at least an enabler (such as our APA-1460 Enabler), ASPI Manager (such as ASPI2DOS.SYS) and functional driver (such as ASPICD.SYS or ASPIDISK.SYS). Starting with version 3.10 APA-1460 provides build-in ASPI Manager and functional drivers for SCSI Disk and SCSI CD-ROM.

Generally speaking as long as your SCSI devices are limited to SCSI disk and/or SCSI CD-ROM, you no longer need any of Adaptec (or other) SCSI drivers - APA-1460 will do the job. However, if you want support other type of SCSI devices (e.g. SCSI Tape or SCSI CD-Writer) or if you have compatibility concerns, you may combine APA-1460 Enabler with Adaptec (or other) ASPI drivers in any combination.

APSoft ASPI Manager functionally identical to Adaptec ASPI manager. However, APSoft ASPI Manager provides better response time, more flexible set of command-line options and better logging in case of problems. We recommend you to use APSoft ASPI Manager even if you are using functional drivers from Adaptec.
